Dear Friends,
We did it! Thank you so much for supporting my campaign for State Assembly.
Because of your support, and the help of so many of our neighbors,
my team has been able to communicate our message of positive change and
excellence to the voters of the 22nd Assembly District. Albany needs a healthy
dose of the energy that we in Flushing use to advance our children's
educational opportunities, to keep our senior citizens healthy, grow local businesses and navigate the exciting
challenges facing a vibrant immigrant community.

We have spent the last few days going around thanking all of our voters and supporters. We write now to convey our thanks to you.
Because of your support, we were able to secure the Democratic nomination, and are one huge step closer to making Flushing a place where we can be
proud of once again!
However, please remember that we still need your vote and support for the General Election on November 4. Please visit www.gracemeng.com to continue your support.
Warmest Regards,
Grace
2008 Candidate Forum for State Assembly District 22 - August 14th, 2008 (video)
Attorney Grace Meng Announces Candidacy for State Assembly
"In my work as a community activist and public interest lawyer, I have been guided by the needs of our friends and neighbors," Grace said. "As the next Assemblywoman from Flushing, my only priority will be representing our community, not other elected officials. This year we are honored and privileged to be working with our former NYC Councilwoman and Assemblywoman Julia Harrison and former District Leader and Assembly candidate Terence Park and the Democratic Club of Flushing."
Meng and her husband, Wayne, a dentist and professor at NYU College of Dentistry, live in Flushing with their baby son, Tyler.
"With the changes roiling throughout Queens and all of New York City - massive development and gentrification, for example - it's vitally important that our neighborhoods have energetic and independent elected officials," she said. "Issues surrounding affordable housing, mass transit, school funding and maintaining our quality of life deserve nothing less. Flushing needs forward looking representation. "
Meng's community activities have included:
- President and Founder, Friends of the Community Unite & Serve (F.O.C.U.S.), which finds volunteering opportunities for neighborhood young people and provides social services outreach
- Former Chairperson of Neighborhood Advisory Board 7
- Board Member, Flushing YMCA
- Board Member, American Red Cross - Queens
- Membership in Queens County and Asian American Bar Associations
- Serving as a volunteer attorney for Sanctuary For Families, which assists victims of domestic violence and their families
"It's no secret that our state government needs reforms," Grace added. "We need more responsible budgeting and we need more transparency in everything that happens in Albany. We need an energetic voice for sensible changes."
The 22nd Assembly District is currently represented by one-term incumbent Ellen Young, who has been in office since Jimmy Meng decided against running for reelection in favor of treating (successfully) serious health issues.
Grace Meng, 32, received her JD from Yeshiva University's Cardozo School of Law and her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan. A product of New York City public and parochial schools, she graduated from Stuyvesant High School. She is a licensed New York attorney and is a Partner at Yoon & Kim, a firm specializing in commercial law and litigation.
The Grace Meng ticket is:
For District Leaders A - James J. Trikas & Fay V. Myers
For District Leaders B - Terence Y. Park & Julia Harrison.
For State Committee - Edwin Salas & Hyleta T. Babb-Summers.
For Judicial Delegates - Hai Fong Chu, Hyleta T. Babb-Summers, Sandy S. Contreras, Shirley A. Gilbert and Howard Hicks.
